|• Middle School Curriculum:
Presented by the Middle School Students
Description: Middle school ushers in a new level of independence, which must be provided for in the Montessori environment by increasing activity from the point of view of work level, choices and planning. In addition to learning standard curriculum like math, science, humanities and language arts, students gain experience in life skills. Dr. Montessori theorized that land-based learning was especially important for adolescents as they are going through a time of great change and preparing to join the larger, adult community. As students interact on the land and in the local community, they understand how society is organized and learn division of labor. Compassion, diplomacy and collaboration skills are developed through experiencing human interdependence. Relationships with animals, plants and the planet are also emphasized, as the importance of sustainability and good stewardship is personally experienced. Visit the Erdkinder campus and experience the unique learning environment as students demonstrate the middle school curriculum through presentations.
