Our children participated in the Children for Peace activity Saturday by creating poems, essays and drawings based on the statement "A Peaceful World will include....." We had many beautiful entries which were displayed at the Peace Fair. Sophia Voskuhl's art work "Singing for Peace" won for the youngest age level. Julia Radhakrishnan's essay won for the lower elementary age level. And Lindsey Diggin's poem won for upper elementary. Congratulations Sophia, Julia and Lindsey!

Our O Ambassadors, led by Ms. Zachritz, spent the day sharing stories of children from third world countries and selling items which our students have been making. Thank you Ms. Zachritz and all the children and parents who participated in the Peace Fair.

Larry Pemble, a Providence parent, treated the upper elementary students to a lesson in Mandarin Chinese during the last weeks of school. Mr. Pemble, who is fluent in Chinese, stated that Chinese is a tonal language and gave the children four pronuniciations and meanings for "ma." The children also learned how to say and spell their names in Mandarin.

Recently, Classroom IV visited the Kentucky Capitol where they met the Governor and Mrs. Breshear.  Speaker of the House, Greg Stumbo gave a grand tour along with a civics lesson on the three branches of government.  As the children sat in the Supreme Court chambers, Mr. Stumbo asked the children who planned to work in Frankfort.  Many children raised their hands and stated that they would like to be judges, state representatives and even the governor!

Mrs. Snider accompanied six students from Providence to New York City March 2-5 so they could participate in the Montessori Model United Nations. Daniel Brenzel, Briar Campbell, Tom Hafley, Henry Hesseldenz, Lucy Macfarlan, and Lydia Newton debated with other Montessori students from all parts of the United States on issues such as free trade, the global orphan crisis, and world poverty. The final session was held at the United Nations where students voted on their resolutions. Those resolutions will be received by Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in the coming days. The trip was a culmination of months spent researching and preparing positions. The delegates convened with the purpose in mind to work together to find solutions to world problems. Congratualtions Daniel, Briar, Tom, Henry, Lucy and Lydia and thank you Mrs. Snider for the many months of afterschool preparation time.
