At Providence, we acknowledge the child’s innate curiosity for nature. We provide an outdoor classroom that includes a butterfly garden and a Native American organic vegetable garden. Through their experiences in the outdoor classroom, the children:

• Develop an attitude of stewardship for the Earth.
• Nurture a respect for all living things.
• Experience the interconnected relationships in nature.
• Learn the value of collaborative effort.

The classrooms at Providence have been designed so that each classroom has its own garden patio. The children take turns caring for plants and filling bird feeders. In addition, composting and recycling are an integral part of our day. Raingardens and bioswales throughout our campus enhance our commitment to environmental stewardship and study.
Junior Master Gardener Program

The lower elementary at Providence is pleased to offer the nationally acclaimed Junior Master Gardener Program. This program serves to enhance our already rich botany curriculum.

The third year students benefit from weekly meetings, participating in small group and individual activities. In addition, they complete 8 hours of community service work to obtain their Junior Master Gardener certification.
