Physical Education / Upper Elementary Music Teacher / Elementary After School Program Coordinator

Myel Byrd began teaching at Providence Montessori in 2021 as the Physical Education specials class teacher and as the Elementary After School Program Coordinator. During P.E. class, Myel fosters a friendly, yet competitive environment through game-based activities that push students to be their best selves, regardless of their abilities. Mr. B. seeks to inspire confidence in the students both inside and outside of the classroom by helping them resolve conflicts that arise from competitive play.  The P.E. curriculum also includes lessons on the key muscle groups and how to effectively use them, as well as gross motor exercises (including dancing, strength training, cardio, and much more!)  Myel also teaches music to our upper elementary students.  He is native to New England and graduated from Berea College with a Bachelor of Arts in general music with a concentration in composition and a minor in creative writing.
